Groot Constantia has once again been named as one of South Africa’s Top Wine Cellars in the 2020 SA Wine and Cellar Classification awards – making it one of the countries most successful wine producers over the past 10 years.

The Estate was also selected as one of the Top 10 most successful SA dessert wine producers; one of the Top Merlot producers, and one of the Top 10 Chardonnay producers. Groot Constantia’s Chardonnay also led the Estate into the 2020 Top Wine SA Hall of Fame.

The SA Wine & Cellar Classifications showcase the country’s leading wine estates – those that are consistently on top and whose wines are judged as superior time and time again, year after year.

Eligibility for selection in the SA Wine & Cellar Classifications is dependent on the wine estate having had at least three vintages of a particular wine consistently achieve good reviews over the past 10 years,” explains Jean Naudé, CEO of Groot Constantia. “Consistency is something that Groot Constantia prides itself on. These awards would have made our founder, Simon van der Stel, very proud. Consistency was an attribute that van der Stel held in high esteem and one of the reason that he named his farm Constantia.”

“South Africa is blessed with an abundance of world-class wineries which produce award winning wines – often the best of their kind globally. Awards such as these reinforce the quality of South Africa’s wines and wine estates and we are pleased and proud of these awards in the 2020 SA Wine & Cellar Classifications,” says Boela Gerber, wine maker for Groot Constantia.

Groot Constantia wine estate is South Africa’s oldest wine producing farm – producing wine uninterrupted for 335 years this year. The estate produces 14 different kinds of wines in the red, white and sweet wine categories which have collectively won well over 100 top awards in the past 10 years alone.

“These awards are a wonderful accolade for Groot Constantia as South Africa’s heritage wine estate. The hard work of our team is clearly continuing to pay off and it is great to receive acknowledgement for all the effort that has gone into the vineyards over the years, and continues to go into the Groot Constantia vineyards,” concludes Naudé.
