The distinct aroma of freshly pressed grapes fills my being as I enter the slightly cool cellar at Groot Constantia on a cloudy Cape Town morning. I make a stop at the wine tasting counter enquiring about the man I came to see today.
I am told, in no uncertain terms, that I will find him in the cellar, busy with his wines…
Groot Constantia’s 2012 Sauvignon Blanc won a total of three trophy’s at this year’s International Wine Challenge – accepted as the world’s finest and most meticulously judged wine competition.

“Our worth” says the Estate’s General Manager, Jean Naude, “is our tradition. The quality of every wine must be guaranteed. That’s the essence on which a brand like this stands. If we produced a mediocre bottle it would amount to an abuse, a waste, of the 326 years of history that have gone into producing this brand.”
Floricius Beukes joined the staff at Groot Constantia as Viticulturist and Farm Manager in March this year.
Renowned artist Hugo Maritz is exhibiting in the Wine Tasting Room from 2nd December to 4th January 2012
Boela was persuaded by Buitenverwachting’s Lars Maack to join him in running the Berlin Marathon… he is glad that he ran it but is not sure he will be doing another…
Kindly be advised that all picnic baskets must be reserved at least 24 hours in advance from either Jonkershuis or Simons Restaurant. Additionally, guests are not permitted to bring their own picnic baskets or food onto the estate.
