I arrived at Simon’s Restaurant after a rather delicious wine tasting at the Groot Constantia wine estate and couldn’t wait to tuck into a tasty meal. It was a cold, rainy Spring day and thankfully my table was right next to the fireplace.
I read through the menu while I warmed up in front of the fire. The menu listed all time classics like their famous Fish and Chips, and Burgers. I settled on a succulent fillet steak paired with Groot Constantia Merlot and (because I am a dessert person, I skipped starters) a slice of New York Baked Cheesecake paired with a glass of Grand Constance.
This pairing: New York Baked Cheesecake with a glass of Grand Constance is the closest I have gotten to heaven. I highly recommend you choose this on your visit if you are a fan of Cheesecake. If not, they offer chocolate mousse, vanilla crème brulee and a chocolate brownie with vanilla ice cream.
I enjoyed every morsel of the meal. Beautifully prepared and plated set on one of the most beautiful estate in Cape Town, you really cannot go wrong. Thankfully I arranged for an Uber to and from the estate, which enabled me to drink and eat to my hearts content. You can also catch the Cape Town Red Bus to the estate, ensuring your safe return.
Good Food. Good Wine. Good Times
The folks at Simon’s Restaurant believe the quality of a meal starts with the quality of the ingredients – and you can really taste the quality. Think fresh, seasonal and local. They have their own kitchen garden where they grow herbs to pick fresh every day. Their menu changes every season to make the most of each dish. They also source their ingredients from producers in the Constantia Valley and the Cape Winelands.
Simon’s restaurant celebrates the riches of the Cape Winelands by transforming the freshest ingredients into memorable meals.
Revel in the Cape Town summer by dining al fresco on our terrace with panoramic views of the Groot Constantia vineyards. As the weather turns, join us inside where we like to light a giant fire on chilly days.
