Groot Constantia is currently demolishing derelict buildings on the Estate that were used in the past as laborers Cottages. These buildings, which have no historic value, have been unoccupied for years and serve no purpose at Groot Constantia. They have however fallen into disrepair and become an attraction for vagrants and criminal elements, which pose a threat to our workers community. The Groot Constantia workers community has given their support for the demolition of these buildings.
We wish to assure the public that we have applied for all the necessary permits to demolish the buildings, which include permission from Heritage Western-Cape and the City of Cape Town. Further to this, the contractors responsible for the demolition have taken all the necessary precautions to keep the community safe during the process.
For any questions and concerns contact Groot Constantia General Manager Jean Naudé.
