Groot Constantia have announced that they are releasing highly limited quantities of the last of their award winning vintages produced over the past decade. These scarce bottles of top performing wines will only be available from the taste-room on the farm and are premium collection wines for the wine connoisseur.
Grant Newton, Marketing Manager for Groot Constantia explains that Groot Constantia have decided to release these ‘Vintage Wines’ as a celebration of the many awards that they have achieved for their hand-crafted limited quantity wines – over 100 awards in the last 10 years alone.
Most recently Groot Constantia walked away with two Gold’s and one Silver from the 2017 Monde Selection International Wine Contest for their 2014 Grand Constance (Gold), 2015 Pinotage (Gold) and 2014 Gouverneurs Reserve (Silver). Groot Constantia were also only one of four South African wine producers to be awarded this year.
In addition to this, Groot Constantia achieved Double Gold Awards for four of its wines in the National Wine Challenge – Double Gold Awards category, with the 2016 Sauvignon Blanc, 2015 Pinotage, 2014 Gouverneurs Reserve, and 2016 Sauvignon Blanc Semillon all receiving accolades.
The Groot Constantia 2014 Merlot also walked away with Double Platinum, and was named a Top 100 wine in the recent Top 100 Wines awards. Whilst the farms iconic Grand Constance was awarded joint first place for the Wine Consistency Award for the period 2011 to 2017.
“This award would have made our founder, Simon van der Stel, very proud. Consistency was an attribute that van der Stel held in high esteem and possibly the reason why he named his farm Constantia,” says Jean Naudé, CEO of Groot Constantia.
In addition to the above, and announced most recently, Groot Constantia’s 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon scored 90/100 in the Wine Magazine Prescient Awards, whilst the Sauvignon Blanc 2016 achieved an impressive 91/100 in the Wine Spectator 2017 Awards.
“We are extremely pleased and proud of our growing list of accolades. Great variation in altitude, slopes and soil types on Groot Constantia give us the ability to produce world class wines over a range of varieties and styles,” says Boela Gerber, winemaker for Groot Constantia.
Our celebratory release of the last bottles of Groot Constantia vintages produced over the past 10 years is an exciting development for anyone who wishes to get their hands on these award winning wines which are not available anywhere else,” concludes Gerber.
