Groot Constantia, SA’s oldest wine farm and one of the oldest brands in the world

There are very few brands that can attest to being over three centuries old and yet to be moving from strength to strength. Groot Constantia is one of them, and as South Africa’s oldest wine farm (332 years old this year) is also one of the oldest brands in the world which has reached iconic status – something which was verified in the winning of the SA Wine Icon category in the recent Klink Awards.

Groot Constantia’s Grand Constance goes Platinum with 98 points in the Decanter Asia Wine Awards

Groot Constantia’s 2013 Grand Constance wine has achieved the highest possible accolade at the recent Decanter Asia Wine Awards.  Surpassing Gold, Grand Constance received Platinum for being the Best South African Sweet Wine - achieving a rare 98 points out of a possible 100, and being classed as "exceptional".

From American shipwrecks to European Castles: The search that shaped the Grand Constance bottle

In Sometimes it takes science to make magic I shared the story of how Groot Constantia's winemaker, Boela Gerber, settled on the formula for making the Grand Constance wine of today.

To honour the 'Constantia Wyn' legacy, the Grand Constance would be presented in a bottle that was as historically accurate as possible. "Jean [Naudé, CEO of the Groot Constantia] and I were both curious and hands on," explained Boela. "It took us quite a few years... at least five years." As he related their journey to find the right size and shape, I realised that this chapter of the Grand Constance story was a puzzle with pieces scattered all over the world.

Groot Constantia will feature on the new Cape Camino 7 Day Big 7 Package

The Cape Town Big 7 and the Cape Camino will be hosting Jean-Pierre de Villiers, an international extreme sports athlete and life coach / international speaker.  He will be running the Cape Camino on the 30 and 31 August and will start and finish his run at the V&A Waterfront. Jean-Pierre is a South African, currently living in the UK.
