Summer is here.

The days are long and the temperatures high and nowhere will you find more to do in one place than at Groot Constantia – South Africa’s oldest wine estate. For more than 330 years Groot Constantia wine has been enjoyed all over the world; celebrated as much for its historic importance as it is for its award-winning excellence.

Explore the start of South Africa’s wine heritage in the museums and exhibitions housed at Groot Constantia

Start of the new Groot Constantia Visitor Route Experience from the Manor House

Today, the Groot Constantia experience transcends wine tasting to offer a quintessential Cape day trip without equal. Centuries-old buildings combine with ancient oak trees to seduce you with a sense of occasion unique to the Cape winelands.

One of the estate’s best summer features are its rolling lawns covered in shade to offer perfect spots for a Groot Summer picnic. And if you were worried about possibly melting in the summer heat, worry no more as ocean breezes will often drift up the valley to cool you down.

At Groot Constantia your Groot Summer experience literally starts at the Manor House door where you’ll be treated to an award-winning welcome as voted for by the 2015/16 Klink Awards where the estate won the Heritage Award for the Most Welcoming Cellar Door Experience.

Since Groot Constantia is built on the heritage of many generations, the estate was in many ways an estate founded on family values – a characteristic that makes it a great destination for the whole family. With its warm country welcome and wide open spaces, the estate is the perfect place to wind down while the kids run themselves to a standstill.

The Simon’s and Jonkershuis restaurants offer excellent opportunities to pair world-class dishes with award-winning wines. Sit down for anything from a bite to eat to a fine dining experience, or spread a blanket for a Groot Summer picnic on the lawn at Simon’s.
