2007’s wine auction proved to raise an impressive R191,785. The highest bid being R20,000 for a Pearl’s Gate, 225 litre barrel of Cabernet Sauvignon / Shiraz, that was blended by master winemaker Altus Le Roux. The event was supported by a number of wine estates and South African artists who donated exceptional works of art and a variety of top wines for the auction.

Well-known personalities, who have epilepsy, supported the worthy cause by attaching their names to the awareness campaign. These include Jonty Rhodes, Pat Pillai and Gerry Rantseli. The same winning combination is on the platter for this year’s Extravaganza of wine which promises to be a very memorable event.

Noëline de Goede, the National Director of Epilepsy South Africa, had the following to say at the 2007 wine auction. “I truly feel privileged to have had the opportunity to spend such a wonderfully positive evening with an amazing audience. Throughout the evening, as I talked to the guests, I learned that they were not only there for the auction, but also truly cared about the greater cause of the event, even if they were not personally affected by epilepsy. It warms my heart to know that a year’s hard work culminated in such a successful event. Everybody involved in our National Charity Wine Auction assisted our organisation to turn obstacles into true potential!”

The purpose for this National Charity Wine Auction is to generate awareness about epilepsy as well as to raise funds for Epilepsy South Africa’s economic and social development programmes which will assist people with epilepsy and other disabilities.

Tickets are R500 per person and R5,000 per table, 10 people sharing. Price includes wine tasting, a five course meal and proceeds to go to Epilepsy South Africa. Epilepsy South Africa intends to host its National Charity Wine Auction annually and aims to ensure that it will become the biggest charity wine auction in South Africa. Epilepsy South Africa is dependant upon the goodwill of its supporters and donors. We hope to see you there.
