Platter’s South African Wine Guide has awarded nine of Groot Constantia’s ten submitted wines a top accolade of 4.5 stars in the 36th edition of this popular guide – annually one of the most eagerly anticipated listings of top-performing wines.

With 90% of their wines having scored so high in what is easily the internationally most renowned and most competent wine guide for South African wines, Groot Constantia can be confident of the quality of their wines.

In the Gouverneurs Range both the 2012 Reserve Red and the 2013 Reserve White received 4.5 stars, whilst in the Groot Constantia Range the 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon, 2013 Merlot, 2013 Shiraz, 2014 Chardonnay, 2012 Grand Constance, 2013 Cape Ruby and 2013 Pinotage all received 4.5 stars as well. In addition to these accolades the 2013 Constantia Rood received four stars.

These latest awards are a wonderful accolade for South Africa’s oldest wine farm which was developed by Simon van der Stel in 1685 and has been producing wine uninterrupted for 331 years this year.

“The hard work of our wine-making team here at Groot Constantia has paid off in outstanding wines being consistently produced on the estate. Testament to this is seen in the many awards that we have won – in fact our wines have collectively won 104 awards since 2003, 32 of them in 2015 alone,” says Boela Gerber, award winning winemaker for Groot Constantia. “It is great to get acknowledgement for all the hard work that went into the vineyards over the years. The addition of vineyard manager Floricius Beukes to the management team in 2011 had a great impact on the style and quality of our wines, which is clear from the latest Platter results.”

Gerber notes that Groot Constantia has received recognition for literally all the wines in the range.

“Exceptional and consistent quality is our aim and motto and it is in line with the vision of our founder, Simon van der Stell, who placed huge value in consistency and it is therefore named as one of the reasons that he called his farm Constantia,” explains Jean Naudé, General Manager of Groot Constantia. “The nine 4.5 stars in John Platter further underlines the versatility of the farm as these wines are spread across various varietals. We are delighted in this achievement and trust that our customers will share in our joy as they consume our wines.”

“2015 was a brilliant year for Groot Constantia,” says Grant Newton, Sales and Marketing Manager for Groot Constantia. “Winning awards not only helps to sell wine but it also gets more people through the front door. 2015 saw us welcome close to 400 000 visitors and, knowing that we are pouring world class wines as part of the experience inspires confidence that we feel will lead to an even more successful year this year.”

“We could not have gone into a fresh new year with a better head start, having won the 2015 KLINK award in the heritage category and now featuring so prominently in the 2016 Platter wine guide, which so many people use as their guide to buying better wine in South Africa,” concludes Newton.
